WASHINGTON (TNND) — President Donald Trump will undergo his annual physical Tuesday at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, where the White House said he will receive preventive medical and dental checkups ahead of his 80th birthday.
The visit marks Trump’s fourth publicly disclosed medical evaluation since returning to office for a second term. While the White House has not detailed what the exam will include, officials expressed confidence in the president’s health.
“President Trump is the sharpest and most accessible President in American history who is working nonstop to solve problems and deliver on his promises, and he remains in excellent health,” White House spokesperson Davis Ingle said in a statement.
Ahead of the appointment, Trump joked that he feels the same as he did decades ago despite admitting he does little exercise and does not follow a particularly healthy diet.
“I feel literally the same,” he said. “I don’t know why. It’s not because I eat the best foods.”
Following an annual physical in April 2025, Trump’s physician, Navy Capt. Sean Barbabella, said the president was “fully fit” to serve as commander in chief and noted he was 20 pounds lighter than during a 2020 checkup that showed him bordering on obesity.
Several months later, Trump underwent another evaluation after experiencing mild swelling in his legs and bruising on one of his hands. Tests found he had chronic venous insufficiency, a common condition in older adults that causes blood to pool in the veins.
At the time, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the bruising on the back of Trump’s hands—sometimes covered with makeup—was caused by irritation from frequent handshaking and aspirin use. Trump takes aspirin to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke.
In October, Trump had what the White House described as a “semiannual physical,” during which he received a flu shot and a COVID-19 booster. He later told The Wall Street Journal that he also underwent advanced imaging of his heart and abdomen as part of preventive screening.
Trump has also frequently highlighted his cognitive test results while criticizing former President Joe Biden’s mental acuity. Some of Trump’s previous physicals included the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, a screening tool for dementia and cognitive impairment. His physicians reported perfect scores — 30 out of 30 — during 2018 and 2025 checkups.
Despite those results, critics have pointed to Trump’s meandering speeches and combative rhetoric as evidence of possible cognitive decline. Last month, more than 30 neurologists, psychiatrists and other medical experts — while acknowledging they had not personally examined him — issued a statement declaring Trump mentally unfit to serve and warning of what they described as an “increasingly dangerous decline” in his behavior.
Ingle dismissed the criticism, accusing the doctors of engaging in politically motivated “armchair diagnosis.”
