WASHINGTON (TNND) — President Donald Trump will host the mothers of children killed by illegal immigrants, as well as mothers who lost their children in combat, during a brunch in the White House Rose Garden on Friday.
Attendees will include Anna Zarutska, whose daughter, Iryna, was stabbed to death while riding home on Charlotte’s light rail system in August 2025, according to The Daily Wire.
Alicia Lopez, the mother of Marine Cpl. Hunter Lopez, will also be a special guest of the president. Cpl. Lopez was one of the 13 American service members killed at Abbey Gate during the U.S. evacuation of Afghanistan in 2021 under former President Joe Biden.
Reflecting on the fourth anniversary of the attack, Trump said, “That was a terrible day. I think it was the worst day—and in many ways the most embarrassing day—in the history of our country It won’t happen again.”
The event marks the second Mother’s Day–related celebration hosted at the White House this week. On Wednesday, Trump and First Lady Melania Trump honored America’s military mothers, recognizing their sacrifices and the vital role they play in supporting service members and their families.
