Iranian official warns ‘strong response is coming’ after Israel’s strike in Beirut
The head of the Iranian parliament’s National Security Committee warned Sunday that Tehran would retaliate following Israel’s strike in Beirut.
“Today’s crime by the Zionist regime in Dahieh, Beirut, once again proved that the U.S. is weak and lacks credibility, as it is not even capable of controlling this illegitimate regime. A strong response is coming,” Ebrahim Azizi said in a post shared on X.
The comments came as President Donald Trump told Fox News’ Trey Yingst that a deal with Iran would be signed “in a matter of hours.”
Earlier Sunday, Trump also publicly condemned the IDF strikes and called on Israel and all other parties to end hostilities.
Guterres says Israeli strikes on Beirut threaten ceasefire, world economy at ‘crucial moment’
U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres criticized Israel’s strikes on Beirut on Sunday, urging all sides to avoid further escalation.
“I strongly condemn today’s Israeli strikes on Beirut,” Guterres said in a post shared on X.
“The strikes took place despite the ceasefire and at a time when the U.S. and Iran are expected to reach an agreement that will pave the way to a peaceful resolution of this conflict,” he added.
“This conflict is having a devastating impact on the world’s economy,” Guterres said before urging all parties to show “maximum restraint at this crucial moment.”
“I strongly hope for a successful outcome of the ongoing efforts by the U.S. and Iran,” he said.
All flights in western Iran canceled until further notice as tensions with Israel escalate: report
Flights in western Iran were canceled Sunday, according to reports.
Citing Iran’s Tasnim News Agency, Reuters reported all flights in the region had been canceled until further notice. However, no official Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) had been issued, the outlet said.
The development came amid remarks by an adviser to Iran’s supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, who said Iran would teach Israel a lesson after the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) struck Beirut’s southern suburbs.
“Neither the American diplomatic smile is trustworthy, nor is Israel’s savagery tolerable!” Mohammad Mokhber wrote on X.
“We will teach the aggressors a lesson they will regret,” he added.
Israel accuses Hezbollah of another ceasefire violation, projectile crosses from Lebanon
Israel claimed Sunday that Hezbollah had broken the ceasefire once more after a projectile entered from Lebanon.
“ANOTHER BLATANT CEASEFIRE VIOLATION,” the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said in a post shared on X.
“Following sirens that sounded across northern Israel, a projectile that crossed from Lebanon impacted near Neot Mordechai, with several additional impacts identified in an area where IDF troops are operating in southern Lebanon,” the IDF said.
Additional impacts from several suspicious aerial targets were identified near the Israel-Lebanon border, the force added.
This came after the IDF also carried out a strike on a Hezbollah infrastructure site in Dahieh in Beirut’s southern suburbs.
US has disabled 9 vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, redirected nearly 150, CENTCOM says
U.S. forces near the Strait of Hormuz have disabled 9 commercial vessels that attempted to violate a blockade on Iranian ports and redirected 142, U.S. Central command said Sunday.
CENTCOM delivered an update on X as officials on all sides indicated that a more lasting peace agreement is closer than ever.
“A U.S Sailor aboard USS Milius (DDG 69) stands watch as the guided-missile destroyer transits regional waters supporting the U.S. blockade against Iran. As of June 14, CENTCOM forces have redirected 142 commercial ships that complied and disabled 9 vessels that did not comply,” CENTCOM wrote.
Trump claims Iran peace deal is just ‘hours’ away, says he blasted Netanyahu in phone call
President Donald Trump says he expects a peace deal with Iran to be signed “in a matter of hours” on Sunday.
Trump made the comments in an interview with Fox News’ Trey Yingst, who cautioned that Iran has backed away from negotiations at the last minute multiple times.
Yingst noted that the tensions between Israel and Iran are an “x-factor” for the negotiations after Israel launched strikes against Hezbollah targets in Beirut, a red line for Iran.
Trump publicly condemned Israel’s strikes earlier Sunday and called on Israel and all other parties to cease hostilities.
Trump told Yingst that he spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu directly.

US forces respond to distress call in Arabian Sea, rescue 14 Indian sailors
The U.S. Navy rescued 14 Indian sailors in the Arabian Sea after responding to a distress call on Sunday.
three U.S. Navy vessels responded to the distress call, but the rescue operations were carried out by servicemembers aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier.
“Upon receiving a distress call from the stranded mariners at approximately 2 a.m. EST, a U.S. Navy P-8 aircraft was first on scene, responded by dropping a search and rescue kit that included a life raft, which the 14 mariners boarded. Motor Vessel (M/V) Jabal Ali 9 subsequently arrived on scene and successfully recovered eleven crew members from the raft,” the Navy said in a statement.
“An MH-60S Sea Hawk, assigned to Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72), rescued three additional mariners after their life raft capsized in the rough seas. The three mariners were transported to M/V Jabal Ali 9, where they were in good health and spirits,” the statement continued.

This could be the beginning of a long and beautiful peace — Let’s not blow it!” he added.

Speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf made the statement in a post on X, suggesting that the attacks may further complicate peace talks.
“The Zionists’ incursion into Dahiyeh has once again shown that America either lacks the will to fulfill its commitments or the ability to do so. By giving the green light to the regime, you cannot gain concessions. The game of bad cop and good cop is outdated,” Ghalibaf wrote.
“If you lack the will and ability to fulfill your commitments, speaking of continuing the path is not possible,” he added.

UNRWA fires 70 Gaza staffers amid Hamas ties allegations, says terminations not admission of guilt
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) fired 70 staff members working in Gaza after long-standing claims from Israeli authorities that the agency is a collaborator with the Hamas terrorist group.
“Today, the Commissioner-General ad interim of UNRWA, Christian Saunders, took the decision to terminate the employment of 70 UNRWA staff members in Gaza with immediate effect,” UNRWA wrote in a statement Friday.
UNRWA insisted its decision was not an admission of guilt but one taken “to mitigate safety and security risks for the refugees the Agency serves under its mandate and for UNRWA personnel and premises.”
The agency claims it has “repeatedly asked the Israeli authorities to provide information and evidence to substantiate allegations against individual UNRWA staff members in Gaza but has received no response to date.”
“The dismissal of the staff is not part of a disciplinary process and does not constitute in any way a validation of the claims made against them,” the UNRWA statement read.
The firings follow a United States Agency for International Development (USAID) investigation that referred more than 100 UNRWA staff members for suspension or dismissal.
USAID’s investigation, the results of which the agency published June 5, assessed that a number of UNRWA’s employees were deeply enmeshed in Hamas’ civil society and military operations.

President Donald Trump is expected to discuss demining operations in the Strait of Hormuz at the G7 summit that starts Monday.
A senior U.S. official, who briefed journalists on condition of anonymity under rules set by the White House, said Trump planned to meet on the G7 sidelines with the leaders of Egypt, Qatar and United Arab Emirates to discuss efforts to wind down the war against Iran.

Israeli officials warn reported US-Iran deal terms could threaten country’s security
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to convene Israel’s security cabinet Sunday evening after President Donald Trump announced a U.S.-Iran agreement is slated to be signed Sunday.
According to The Times of Israel, citing Channel 12, senior Israeli officials said the reported terms of the memorandum of understanding “endanger Israel’s security interests” and claimed Washington accepted several of Tehran’s key demands.
The reported concerns come as Trump and other U.S. officials signal a deal to end the conflict may be imminent.
