The scale of the damage to Venezuela’s buildings can be seen in a video filmed along a major coastal road in Caraballeda, in the La Guaira state north of Caracas.

For more than a minute, the person filming the video drives down a section of the road less than half a mile long, highlighting numerous collapsed apartment buildings and structures.
Using Google Maps, NBC News estimates that the video shows that at least eight apartment blocks have been levelled, along with shops and other stores along the roadside.

Videos have flooded social media platforms in the hours since the earthquakes hit Venezuela, with people both inside and outside the country using them to gauge the extent of the destruction, and check if the homes of uncontactable family members are safe.
